In 2022, a transformative journey began with the launch of the Women of Impact Rwanda initiative, founded by the visionary Edith Nibakwe. This Initiative was created with one core mission: to amplify the voices of women and empower them through the power of media.
The Women of Impact Rwanda (WOI) initiative was designed not only to highlight the incredible achievements of Rwandan women but also to provide a space where they could connect, learn, and grow together. By leveraging the influence of media—through stories, interviews, and platforms—the project strives to raise awareness of women’s contributions in Rwanda and beyond. It seeks to support the next generation of female leaders and change-makers.
The launch of WOI marks a turning point in the conversation around women’s empowerment. the initiative will host visits to girls in schools and conferences on various topics specific to women. Aissa Cyiza said that her team came up with the Ishya show to elaborate on all the issues facing girls and women, adding that female journalists should have an impact on the lives of other women.
Speaking about teenage pregnancy, Cyuzuzo encouraged parents to educate their children and that female journalists should break silence on gender-based violence. Their colleague, Christelle suggested that parents control what their children consume from the internet and television. Furthermore, influential figure Pamela Mudakikwa, called on other women to become ‘women of impact’ in their communities and comfort other women struggling with life’s difficulties.
As the Women of Impact Rwanda initiative continues to grow, Edith Nibakwe envisions a future where women’s voices are not only heard but are integral to shaping the future of Rwanda. The journey is just beginning, but the movement has already set the stage for a world where women are equally represented, empowered, and celebrated.
